![]() I have nothing against homosexuals. People can love and live with whomever they want, in whatever arrangement they desire. And if Marriage was just “a contract between any two people”, I wouldn’t be against same-sex marriage. But Marriage doesn’t just affect the people getting married- it affects any Children who are brought in from a previous relationship/ adoption/ donor, or who may be adopted/ created in the future. Sometimes a moment of clarity can come from the most unexpected of places. It happened to me while I was tweeting with a liberal troll on Twitter who said, “GOP candidates in 2008 reflected party's moral/intellectual bankruptcy is the party of religious fanatics & hyper-wealthy”. While this statement is factually untrue, the troll makes a valid point regarding how the GOP has a serious messaging problem in terms of the people who represent us and how we are being perceived because of them. “Liberalism” aka The Peter Pan Syndrome. 04/17/2009
At first glance, the Adventures of Peter Pan in Neverland is just a fun children’s story about a little boy who can fly through the air, and refuses to grow up. But if you look at the story closely, it is also a literal depiction of the psychology of many Liberals, their emotional maturity, and the way they think. FEMINISM Good Intentions Feminism in terms of getting women the right to vote, own property, access to education, and equal pay for equal work is obviously a noble cause. And those wrongs have largely been righted in this country. (However, women are still treated like property/second-class citizens in countries run by Radical Islamic Fundamentalists.) Negative Effect Some women have turned Feminism into a philosophy that looks down on women who choose to stay at home and raise families (Home-Makers). They praise women who pursue careers as being more intelligent and accomplished, and ignore the price they often pay for sacrificing family time for their jobs. The “family years” are precious years when a child grows up, but they fly by so fast. Both moms and dads should consider this fact, and find the right balance between advancing their careers/making money and spending quality time with their family. Career women are to be admired, but "stay at home moms" should be admired also for all the work they do raising and nurturing their children. Why I Believe in God. 03/25/2009
Before I launch into my explanation of why I believe there is a God, I think it would be helpful to describe my upbringing to give some context as to where I am coming from. I was baptized as a baby, and attended various Protestant Christian churches with my parents during my childhood. My parents were fervently religious at first (“Spreading the Good News”/Organizing Retreats/ Teaching Sunday School etc.). They became less and less involved in church as time went on, and as our family broke apart, we totally stopped attending except for Christmas. Advocates of Gay Marriage often use this Bible quote to argue for their cause: "Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven; give and it will be given to you...For the measure you give will be the measure you receive." (Luke 6:37, 38b) Many gay marriage advocates are wrong to think that those of us who support traditional marriage (one man one woman) are all “judging” gay people. We are not. I believe gay people have a right to enter into civil unions (giving them the same legal benefits and protections as heterosexual couples), but that doesn't trump a child's right to have a mom and dad. Having children is not a "right". Children have rights. I recently got caught up in a torrent of tweets on Twitter about why I am against the legalization of Marijuana. Rather than firing off tiny 140 character squeaks trying to explain my position on this issue, I've decided to concise my thoughts into a blog post. First, I believe in freedom of the individual, as long as that person's activities are not harmful to others, or negatively affect society as a whole. This is obviously why there are laws against assaulting or killing people, walking around in public nude, driving drunk or too fast etc. There are certain self-destructive people (alcoholics, smokers) whose actions negatively affect themselves, their family, friends and coworkers, but who are not breaking the law. Those in favor of legalizing marijuana look at these people and say "See? Cigarettes and Alcohol are just as bad as, if not worse than Marijuana!" They think that alcohol, cigarettes and marijuana are somehow interchangeable, and if cigarettes and alcohol are legal, marijuana should be legal too. The premise of their argument is flawed, because cigarettes, alcohol, and marijuana are three very different things. |
